Akhtar praises PM Modi’s gesture after IND’s loss to AUS, saying, “He Gave a Clear Message That He’s There With the Team”

Legendary pacer Shoaib Akhtar of Pakistan praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts to console the Indian players after their defeat by Australia in the Ahmedabad, India, ICC World Cup 2023 final on Sunday. With ten straight victories, the men in blue advanced to the grand finals as the top team from the group stage. But in the end, both the trophy and their impetus vanished. The Australians won the sixth world championship in history after defeating India by six wickets.

Speaking, Akhtar praised Rohit Sharma and said that he had good intentions throughout the competition. The former cricket player said that the Indian skipper was only concerned with winning the World Cup for his nation, not with any personal accomplishments.

“He [Rohit Sharma] led the squad well and performed exceptionally well. On the last day, he almost missed the trick. Aside from that, he deservedly won the World Cup. I’m still perplexed as to why he was not crowned champion. He entered the event with the correct intentions. He didn’t consider his own accomplishments. He was more concerned with leading India to victory in the World Cup. I really feel sorry for him,” Akhtar said.

The speed legend went on to criticize the social media trolls for their targeting of Indian cricket players’ families.

“Winning the World Cup in front of their spouses and children is a dream come true for athletes. And hell to those who are harassing and mistreating the families of the Indian athletes. How much will they go to? He went on, “You are targeting them, even though they were there to support them.”

In addition, Akhtar saved the greatest compliments for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who came to the Team India locker room to comfort the grieving players.

“I was touched by your prime minister’s kindness. He made it quite evident that he is with the players. That was a very big deal. This served as a message that the Indian cricket team had the support of the whole country. Just like that. For them, this is a really sensitive moment. The players’ morale was boosted when he told them they performed well, treating them like his own children. “The PM made a very admirable gesture,” Akhtar said in closing.
