Australia leads by 103 runs after bowling out England for 325 before lunch on Day 3 of the second Ashes Test

After dismissing England for 325 on the third morning of the second Ashes test on Friday at Lord’s, Australia, playing without Nathan Lyon, increased its advantage to 103 runs.

Australia’s second innings was securely completed with six over of no loss by Usman Khawaja and David Warner. They each had six and five.

After tea on Thursday, Lyon hurt his right calf while jogging in the field, and Cricket Australia said their frontline spinner had a “significant” strain. He used crutches to go to Lord’s. After the match, in which Australia is attempting to take a 2-0 lead, it will be decided whether he will play again in the five-match series.

The Australians continued to bowl short and aggressively against defensive fields like they did on Thursday. On Friday, though, under more hospitable gloomy and chilly circumstances, they dismissed England before the new ball was made available.

In response to Australia’s 416, England began play on 278-4, and the dismissal of captain Ben Stokes to Mitchell Starc’s nasty second ball of the day ignited a collapse that saw six wickets fall for 47 runs in less than 90 minutes.

Running up the hill, Starc got a leading edge off Stokes, which Cameron Green at third slip successfully collected. Stokes’ 17 points didn’t increase over night.

Pat Cummins struck Harry Brook in the helmet as he recommenced on 45. On the next ball, he singled to achieve his eighth fifty in his ninth test, demonstrating that he had successfully passed the concussion test.

But all Brook could get was 50 from 68 balls. He smashed another short ball baseball-style straight to Cummins at cover, giving Starc his 313rd wicket, tying him with Mitchell Johnson for seventh all-time on the Australian record.

After refreshments, the last wickets all collapsed at once.

As a spin-alternative to Lyon, Jonny Bairstow chipped Josh Hazlewood to Cummins at midfield for 16 and Travis Head claimed his eighth and ninth test wickets.

Matt Renshaw, who filled in for Lyon in the fielding department, made a golden catch at short leg as Cummins took the last wicket to distribute the spoils among the three quicks.

They gave Australia a 91-run advantage after the first inning.
