Bayern Munich, Bundesliga As you pass through Freiburg and Bayer Leverkusen atop the table

Although Bayern Munich defeated Freiburg 3-0 with ease thanks to two goals from Kingsley Coman, Bayer Leverkusen reclaimed the top spot in the Bundesliga on Sunday.

Coman and Leroy Sané scored goals to prolong Freiburg’s winless streak in Munich and give the 11-time reigning champion its fifth victory in seven league games. In 24 Bundesliga games against Bayern Munich, Freiburg has never been able to win.

In the 12th minute, Coman scored the game’s first goal after what seemed to be a cross went past Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu and in off the far post.

Sané added a second goal in the 25th minute after exchanging passes with Harry Kane and maneuvering past many defenders to score his sixth goal of the year.

After playing the ball between a defender’s legs, Sané scored again just before halftime, but the goal was disallowed by VAR for what seemed to be offside.

Bayern was unaffected by Freiburg’s lackluster pressure because it was willing to keep possession without taking too many chances.

When Coman’s shot hit the top of the net early in the second half, it created a rare moment of excitement.

Before Coman eventually scored his second goal in the 85th minute, Leon Goretzka hit the crossbar.

Freiburg’s Vincenzo Grifo characterized Bayern’s victory as “deserved.”

Cologne lost to Bayer Leverkusen.

The 3-0 victory against their local rival Cologne by Leverkusen put Xabi Alonso’s club in first place after this round, one point ahead of Stuttgart and two ahead of Bayern, while Bayern just did what it needed to do.

Once again, Victor Boniface scored. The Nigerian attacker finished off the scoring against Cologne in the 68th minute. Cologne had won on its previous two trips to Leverkusen, but it is now in last place with only one point through its first seven games.

In the 22nd minute, Jonas Hofmann scored his team’s first goal by sweeping the ball inside the right post after Florian Wirtz had set him up with his heel.

Alex Grimaldo blasted the ball across the goal face for Jeremie Frimpong to score the second goal 10 minutes later as Leverkusen continued to control play.

Early in the second half, Marvin Schwäbe, the goalkeeper for Cologne, stopped Frimpong from scoring Leverkusen’s third goal, but he was unable to stop Hofmann from crossing the ball for an easy goal from Boniface to secure the victory. It was Frimpong, whose brilliantly timed ball put Hofmann through, who assisted Boniface in scoring his seventh goal of the year.

Late in the game, Boniface almost scored again as his attempt flew past the far post.

In the late game, Eintracht Frankfurt defeated promoted Heidenheim 2-0 for only its second league victory of the year.
