World Weightlifting Championships Men’s 73kg Group D: Achinta Sheuli Places Eighth
Weightlifter Achinta Sheuli, who won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, was disappointingly ninth in Group D of the men’s 73kg event on Friday at the World Championships.
Sheuli made a total effort of 285kg (130kg+155kg), but he only managed three unsuccessful attempts—two in the snatch phase and one in the clean and jerk.
The 21-year-old junior world champion with the silver medal holds a clean and jerk personal best of 173 kg and a total lift of 313 kg.
Narayana Ajith, the other Indian competitor in the men’s 73 kg event, will compete on Saturday since he is in Group C.
Lifters are divided into categories according to their admission. Group A is made up of the lifters with the highest entry weights, followed by Group B, and so on.
One of the two required qualifying events for the Paris Olympics is the 2023 World Championships.
