Before the World Cup, Waqar Younis makes fun of Babar Azam’s Pakistan as a “weaker team”

Former world champions Pakistan will still bet on their prospects of winning the coveted trophy at the ICC World Cup in India next month despite being one of the competition’s most unpredictable sides. Babar Azam’s Pakistan team, who were World Cup champions in 1992, will be motivated to snap a protracted losing record against India in the 50-over World Cup.

At the T20 World Cup in 2021, Pakistan accomplished the impossible by shocking India with an epic 10-wicket victory over Virat Kohli and company to record its first-ever victory over India in World Cup competitions. The Men in Green advanced to the World Cup final in Australia last year under the guidance of superstar Babar. Even though the Green Army is now ranked No. 2 in ODIs, Waqar Younis, a great Pakistani bowler, has called Babar’s team a “miss-and-hit” outfit in the World Cup.

There will be pressure on Pakistan.

“As everyone is aware, India vs. Pakistan will be the most important game. As a result, you will need to maintain composure while playing in Ahmedabad, and not only because Pakistan is a poorer squad than India. But because of the strain that the stadium audience would put on both sides, India will also be under pressure, Younis told Star Sports.

The former captain of Pakistan said that Team India had a competitive advantage against Babar and company in the World Cup. Younis, who led Pakistan in the World Cup of 2003, also acknowledged that the injury to bowler Naseem Shah was a significant setback for Pakistan. Shah, a speedster, hurt his shoulder during the Asia Cup. On October 6, Pakistan will face the Netherlands at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad to begin their World Cup campaign.

“Naseem Shah’s absence will be a serious setback.”

India would undoubtedly be a better team, he said, if judgments are made only on the basis of team performance. Younis warned that the Pakistanis’ unpredictable form and the loss of bowler Naseem Shah due to injury might significantly hurt them. Pakistan is a hit and a miss this time if I bring them up. Because Naseem and Shaheen (Afridi) used to compliment each other with fresh balls, Naseem Shah’s departure would be a major detriment, Younis said.
