Belgian coach’s remarks about the captaincy controversy left Thibaut Courtois “deeply disappointed”

Thibaut Courtois, the custodian, questioned Domenico Tedesco’s “reality” when the Belgian coach accused him of deserting his teammates and fabricating an injury ahead of a European Championship qualifying match.

Courtois allegedly skipped Monday’s training session for Belgium because he was “offended” by Tedesco’s handling of the captaincy, according to Tedesco. Tedesco informed the public that Courtois was not hurt after Courtois’ father denied there was a conflict among the team and claimed his son was permitted to depart due to knee pain.

In response, Courtois said late on Monday that he was “deeply disappointed” that Tedesco made public the chat they had in the locker room. He also included a photo of himself in a Belgium jersey with one palm on his heart, standing next to interim captain Romelu Lukaku.

He said, “The coach’s assessments do not fit with reality.”

The decision to quit was made following discussions between the medical staffs of Courtois’ Real Madrid club and the national team, who maintained that Courtois had a problem with his right knee.

The custodian also shared his account of the discussion he had over team leadership with Tedesco.

He added, “I urged him to explain and make judgements to prevent situations that in the past have hurt us while always seeking for the general advantage. I did not ask him for direct profit.

I attempted to explain to him that whether or not to be the captain of the national team is a choice that should be made by him. Sadly, I failed to accomplish my goal.

Tedesco openly announced that Courtois will wear the armband against Estonia on Tuesday before Courtois left the game.

Courtois said, “I stress that under no circumstances have I made any demands, and that I have talked to my teammate Romelu Lukaku to explain any facts surrounding this scenario.

On Saturday, when Belgium and Austria tied 1-1, Lukaku served as captain. Romelu Lukaku scored their equaliser, and Tedesco commended Courtois for keeping the score tied.

However, Tedesco said on Monday that Courtois, who has 102 games under his belt for Belgium, was dissatisfied not to have been captain.

Naturally, I attempted to talk to him multiple times, saying, “Don’t do that to me, don’t do that to the staff, don’t do that to the squad. He made a difficult choice because it was one, according to Tedesco.

Tedesco said, “It’s not the right time to speak about it,” when asked whether he would keep the door open for Courtois to rejoin the national team.

Unbeaten in Group F, Belgium is three points behind leader Austria but has a game in hand before facing Estonia.
