Captain of India Uday Saharan to Taz Ali of England: Players that did not do well in the 2024 Under-19 World Cup

The India Under-19 team lost to Australia in the final of the ICC Men’s U19 Cricket World Cup by 79 runs on Sunday at Willowmoore Park in Benoni, failing to win their sixth championship. Following last year’s 50-over Men’s Cricket World Cup final and the World Test Championship final, this was India’s third consecutive loss to Australia in a top-tier ICC competition.

Australia, on the other side, added to their 1988, 2002, and 2010 championships by winning their fourth in the ICC Men’s U19 Cricket World Cup. In their ninth final appearance, five-time champion India came in second place four times.

Let’s take a look at the players who performed particularly well as the competition draws to a close after almost a month:

Uday Saharan of India is the tournament’s top run scorer.

The Indian skipper, who averaged 56.71 and scored 397 runs in 7 innings, finished the tournament as the top scorer. In the Super Six stage, he scored three half-centuries in addition to a century against Nepal.

The tournament’s top wicket-taker is South Africa’s Kwena Maphaka.

To close up the Under-19 World Cup, the top South African pacer claimed 21 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls. In the Super Six round championship match, he scored six points out of twenty-one against Sri Lanka.

“Has great meaning for me. For the remainder of the competition, I will keep this in mind. I spent a lot of time honing my inswing, which was helpful in this competition. I’m really excited about the future and would be thrilled to play for South Africa if I can make it happen. A lot of hard work to be done, Maphaka said on Sunday at the post-match press conference.

Snehith Reddy (New Zealand) had the tournament’s highest score.

During a group-stage game in East London versus Nepal, the New Zealand batter stole the show. Riding high on Reddy’s incredible 147 off 125 deliveries, which included 11 boundaries and 6 maximums, the Kiwis reached 302 for in 50 overs. The game was won by New Zealand by 64 runs.

England’s Taz Ali had the best bowling stats in the competition.

In the Super Six Group 2 match in Potchefstroom, the English leggie completely destroyed the Zimbabwe batting lineup. Only two of Zimbabwe’s eleven batsmen reached double digit scores, but Ali came back with 7 for 29 in 7.5 overs to ruin their chase of 237. The seventeen-year-old’s outstanding bowling statistics earned him the title of Player of the Match.
