Daryl Mitchell was replaced by Rachin Ravindra for New Zealand’s Fifth Twenty20 International match against Pakistan

Rachin Ravindra has been appointed as the substitute for New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell, who was forced out of Sunday’s fifth Twenty20 International against Pakistan.

Mitchell’s workload management became a top focus for the hosts when he shown his skill with two half-centuries throughout the series, especially with important international matches approaching.

Coach Gary Stead stresses that with the Test matches against Australia and South Africa coming up, it’s critical to keep Mitchell, a versatile three-format player. Since the series is already decided at 4-0, Mitchell’s break gives an ideal opportunity to reintroduce all-rounder Rachin Ravindra, who was rested for the first part of the series.

Although Mitchell has been in 28 of New Zealand’s 34 games since August 30, 2023, Stead recognizes his significant efforts. In order to maintain Mitchell in peak condition for the difficulties of the home season, the break is intentionally timed to coincide with New Zealand’s larger goals.

Rachin Ravindra, who hasn’t played since December, returns to the national team and is ready to leave his imprint. After a short hiatus and a T20 debut for the Wellington Firebirds, Stead expressed confidence in Ravindra’s ability to fit into the team’s position.

Concerns over Devon Conway’s involvement as the opening batsman in the fifth Twenty20 International remain amid the team changes. Conway is now out of the game after contracting COVID-19 in the fourth game; his future is uncertain. With care, Stead decides to make a decision on Conway’s involvement the morning of the game, putting player safety and health first.
