David Miller Strengthens Opposition to ‘Impact Sub’ Rule in IPL

Although clubs were initially skeptical, they eventually warmed up to the idea of playing 12-a-side when the Impact Sub-rule was implemented in the IPL in 2023. Teams would name a shortlist of five replacements to choose from in addition to the starting eleven. After gaining some experience with it during the second season, teams began to mostly employ it to enhance their batting and minimize the need for a genuine all-rounder on the side.

The number of runs teams are scoring right now has been the rule’s most notable effect. From the standpoint of a sports entertainment business, having more huge hits essentially means that both viewers and spectators are receiving their money’s worth. From the perspective of the player, however, things are a little different, and many have begun to voice reservations about this idea. David Miller, a lower-order hitter with a lot of swinging power, is the most recent addition to this group.

Miller made a clear statement at a news conference the night before the Gujarat Titans’ game against the Delhi Capitals in Delhi: He doesn’t think the regulation is ideal.

“I don’t think the impact player rule is that great. IPL has been a test, and it’s clear that it’s getting a lot of attention. There have always been eleven players in a cricket match. We should stick with what we have because, as Rohit pointed out, it’s not the same in international cricket, Miller added.

“Imagine having eight batsmen and six bowlers and eliminating the all-rounders from the running. I’m not sure how they’ll decide, but it’s evident that certain all-rounders find it challenging to bowl,” he said.

Miller and a number of other well-known athletes have also voiced their thoughts on this regulation. Let’s examine a few more celebrities who disapprove of the Impact Sub regulation.

I find Impact Sub rule: Rohit Sharma to be really annoying.
“I don’t really like the Impact Sub rule. All-rounders will eventually be held back since cricket is ultimately played by 11 players, not 12. To make the game exciting for everyone around you, you are extracting a great deal from it. In the “Club Prairie Fire” podcast, Rohit said, “If you look just at the cricketing side of things, I feel guys like Shivam Dube and Washington Sundar aren’t getting to bowl, which is not a good thing for us.”

Please take away the regulation for Impact Players: Siraj Mohammed
“Please take this Impact Sub thing down. It’s hilarious.” Before RCB’s game against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Siraj said, “The wickets are already flat, and there’s nothing for the bowlers in it; previously, it used to be slow at times, but the batters now come out swinging at absolutely everything.”

Everything will function according to the batter’s convenience: Impact Sub Rule’s Axar Patel
“Whoever is in charge of the rules believes that everything will operate to suit the batter’s convenience. It’s obvious that it’s been challenging (for the bowlers). It’s challenging, in my opinion, but you will undoubtedly have the chance to play well in such circumstance if you have the necessary talents, DC all-arounder Axar Patel said.

Why is [Impact Rule] necessary for the IPL?—Mukesh Kumar
“What is the purpose of having 12 players in the IPL if they are not competing at the international level? With 12 players, the next player doesn’t hesitate to take wickets and maintain the stability of the team; they come and make their strokes even if four wickets are lost. Fast bowler Mukesh Kumar of DC said, “Therefore, either the nature of the tracks should be changed, or 12 players should not be allowed.”

After the season is done, we are available for any discussion: BCCI on the Impact Subregulation
The BCCI was forced to take action based on the players’ views. Speaking about the hot-button subject, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal gave us his word that the Indian Cricket Board will reconsider the regulation once the season ended.

“Since this remark has been made, we will undoubtedly investigate it. After talking with everyone concerned, we’ll answer calls. Every rule that is in existence has a number of benefits and drawbacks. When the season is done, we are available for any conversation. Regarding its execution, nothing is set in stone, Dhumal told The Telegraph on Friday.
