Dean Henderson is replaced by Alkay Bayindir, a goalkeeper from Fenerbahce, by Manchester United

Manchester United just revealed that they had signed Turkish goalkeeper Alkay Bayindir from Fenerbahce in a deal costing reportedly 4.3 million pounds, putting an end to their Dean Henderson conundrum on deadline day.

With the Premier League team, Bayindir signed a four-year deal with an additional 12-month extension option.

The young Turk will replace recently retired player Dean Henderson, who moved from Manchester United to Crystal Palace in search of a starting position in the club, and will face off against Andre Onana for the No. 1 slot.

Due to the departures of experienced goalkeeper David De Gea and both Henderson this summer, United’s goalkeeping unit has undergone a complete rebuild.

Early in his career, Bayindir made a name for himself as the greatest young goalkeeper in Turkey, which prompted Fenerbahce to sign him off the market in 2019. He was hired to take the position of seasoned goalkeeper Harun Tekin and was excellent in that capacity.

But the young goalkeeper’s propensity for injuries is a huge source of worry. Bayindir’s performances last season significantly declined as a result of two serious injuries, one to his back hernia and one to his shoulder. However, it seems that United manager Erik ten Hag is prepared to make a bet on the kid’s natural goalkeeping talent and to give the Turk a fresh start in a new environment.

Bayindir told the club’s official website, “It is a big honor to join Manchester United and become the first Turkish player to represent this magnificent club.

“I have a strong desire to succeed, and I will do all in my power to support this unique team of athletes as we work to realize our goals. I am eager to begin training with such a skilled goalkeeping group. We shall encourage one another to set high standards every day so that we may all be prepared to perform when necessary.

This season, United has had a rocky start with a variety of highs and lows revealed on the field, particularly in the midfield. However, once the transfer deadline is passed, they will be aiming to find their rhythm and get going. They will undoubtedly need it since United has a difficult and challenging schedule ahead of them this year, especially in the Champions League where they were drawn into a group containing powerhouses like FC Copenhagen, Galatasaray, who is back from last season, and Bayern Munich.

Bayindir may not be Manchester United’s only deadline-day acquisition. In addition, the team is anticipated to recruit Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham, while Sofyan Amrabat of Fiorentina is still being linked to a transfer to the club.
