Despite losing against the RCB, SRH skipper Pat Cummins maintains that this is the right course of action for his team

At the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday, Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 35 runs to win only their second game of the 2024 Indian Premier League season.

RCB amassed 206 runs in 20 overs thanks to strikes from Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar in the first innings. In the chase, RCB bowlers claimed a brace of wickets to restrict SRH to 171 runs at a cost of eight wickets.

According to SRH captain Pat Cummins, they lost wickets at regular intervals throughout the chase and went for a touch too much with the ball in the first innings.

“The night was not perfect. At the post-match presentation, he observed, “We went a few runs over par with the ball and unfortunately lost a few wickets throughout our innings.”

“We decided to bat first, and it seems that it is effective for us. We had believed that we were a bowl-first squad prior to the previous several victories. It did not, however, go our way,” he said.

The Australian said, “I speak after wins, Daniel Vettori speaks after losses,” when asked what message he would want to deliver to his supporters in the wake of the setback.

He discussed the nature of Twenty20 cricket and expressed the opinion that winning every game is not realistic.

“The lads are doing well, but because it’s T20 cricket, you can’t expect to win every match. Don’t think about this too much,” he said.

The captain led SRH with a scorching innings of 31 off only 15 deliveries, demonstrating the offensive style they have approached the season with even if they are losing wickets at regular intervals.

He said that despite their past defeats, they were still able to score well and that this was the Hyderabad team’s best course of action going forward.

It seems to be our strongest suit. It won’t function in every game. We were nevertheless able to get a respectable total in one or two games when things didn’t go our way right away. “I continue to believe that this is the right path for our boys,” he said.
