Amit Shah’s doctored video: Delhi police call Telangana chief minister Reddy

NEW DELHI: As part of its probe into the distribution of a manipulated video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah that was posted on Telangana Congress social media accounts, the Delhi Police special cell has given Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy with a notice.

Reddy has been invited to attend the investigation in Delhi on May 1 and bring a cell phone.

The notification also states that noncompliance with the summons will result in penal/coercive criminal actions.

Teams of Delhi police are camped out in Hyderabad and other locations, and they are now notifying a minimum of six more individuals. According to reports, letters have already been sent to state Congress secretary Shivakumar Ambala, TPCC spokeswoman Asma Tasleem, and Telangana Congress chairperson for social media Satish Manne.

Shah’s manipulated video: Delhi police call T’gana CM
After receiving a report from Union Home Ministry, the cyber section of the special cell of the police filed a formal complaint on Sunday. Police are attempting to identify the accounts that published the “deepfake” video in which Shah is allegedly heard stating that all reservations, including those of SCs and STs, would be cancelled. They have formed a squad called Intelligence Fusion & Strategic Ops (IFSO) unit. According to the sources, police have also written to “X” and other social media sites asking for information on the video in an effort to track down the person who uploaded it first and cause it to go viral.

In addition to provision 66-C of the Information Technology Act, police have cited IPC sections related to forgery, inciting riots, and inciting animosity amongst various groups in the FIR that they filed.

The Delhi police brass met earlier on Monday to discuss the matter. At midday, a different crew arrived in Hyderabad, went to Gandhi Bhavan, the Telangana Congress headquarters, and served the notice in accordance with Section 91/160 of the CrPC.

The notification states: “We need the following information/documents: The video that you have tweeted or re-tweeted on your X handle, the computer, tablet, or phone that you used to create, upload, or tweet this video on your X account, as well as any device that you used to record this video before tweeting or uploading it.”
