Despite the Delhi Capitals’ victory against LSG, Adam Gilchrist demands that Rishabh Pant be punished. Here’s why

New Delhi: Although the Delhi Capitals defeated the Lucknow Super Giants on Friday, former Australian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant thought that the captain should have been punished for his on-field antics with the umpire during their IPL 2024 match at the Ekana Stadium. Gilchrist was alluding to Pant’s lengthy exchanges with the umpire during the match’s fourth over about a wide ball. Later on, however, TV replays verified that it was, in fact, a wide ball.

Australian cricket legend Gilchrist pushed for simple remedies to avoid game interruptions and stressed the need for umpires to take charge of the game. “I saw another instance tonight of the necessity for umpires to oversee games more effectively, regardless of the format. They just need to move things forward more effectively,” Gilchrist reportedly told Cricbuzz.

Devdutt Padikkal was on the crease when Ishant Sharma delivered a way outside the leg side, causing the incident. Without hesitation, the umpire ruled that the ball was wide. Nevertheless, Pant rushes in the direction of the referees on the pitch. Pant argued with the umpires for a long time after the DRS review was conducted.

Commentators Pommie Mbangwa and Deep Dasgupta, however, subsequently stated that Pant’s displeasure was evident since the snickometer, which would have detected the presence of an outside edge, was not used. The captain of the Delhi Capitals also indicated that there could have been a sound from the bat by pressing his gloves on his ears.

Gilchrist’s frustration at Pant was obvious. “I think it’s a really straightforward discussion. Umpires need to just declare, “It’s over,” and move on, regardless of how much Rishabh or any other player vents. However, the southpaw said, “He ought to be fined if he continues to talk.”
