Ex-India Coach Refuses to Place the Blame for India’s WTC Final Loss on the IPL

Several former cricketers, notably Ricky Ponting, argued that India’s failure in the World Test Championship (WTC) final may have been caused by the players’ fatigue from the IPL 2023 season.

Ravi Shastri, a former India coach, has refused to attribute India’s defeat on the IPL while also pointing out that some Indian cricketers have had success after competing in the IPL, which gave them a stage on which to display their talents.

One week will pass between the conclusion of the IPL and the match between India and Australia in England, according to Shastri, giving the Indian squad enough of time to prepare for the World Tennis Championship final.

The great Indian allrounder has refuted such accusations, pointing out that the Rohit Sharma-led team just had to acclimatize to the playing circumstances. Experts contend that Australian players came early in England, helping them better acclimate to the conditions.

“From what I understand, Australia arrived in England on the 30th, played golf on the 31st, had 3–4 days of practice, and then competed in the World Tennis Championship final. I’m done now. Therefore, all of the stuff about getting there early and acclimating is nonsense, Shastri told The Week.

It’s more important to comprehend what the circumstances in England need and work toward meeting those demands, he said.

The 61-year-old noted that the IPL wasn’t a “disturbance,” but rather that Indian cricket has advanced thanks to the rich competition.

“I don’t believe the IPL is even somewhat disruptive. You should give the IPL credit for the state of Indian cricket today. You must appreciate the IPL for producing players who transitioned from IPL play to Test cricket regulars, Shastri remarked.

It’s the goose that lays the golden egg, he continued. Never, then, point at the geese. See if you can lay more eggs.

Rohit and company had a well-earned recovery week after the loss to Australia, and their next challenge will be the West Indies.

Starting on July 12, India will take on West Indies in a two-match Test series, a three-match ODI series, and a five-match T20I series.
