Gujarat defeats Karnataka by 7 runs as Siddharth Desai rages with a 7-wicket haul from 50/0 to 103 All-Out | WATCH

In the Ranji Trophy 2023–24 second round, Gujarat pulled off an unexpected victory on Monday in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, defeating Karnataka by a score of only six runs. Karnataka were on a 50-run roll with no losses, chasing 110 and getting closer to a commanding victory. However, in the following 17 overs, Ahmedabad dismissed Karnataka for 103 runs thanks to a 7-wicket haul from left-arm spinner Siddharth Desai, who started an attack on Mayank Agarwal & Co.

On the last day of the Gujarat vs. Karnataka match, the hosts resumed their innings at 171 for 7, having scored 61 runs in the second innings. They put 48 more runs on the board throughout the night, laying down a meager 110 runs for Karnataka.

Agarwal and Devdutt Padikkal had a fantastic start in reply, scoring 50 runs for the first wicket. However, Desai took advantage of both Karnataka openers in the tenth over, opening the floodgates for the visiting team. In Karnataka’s second essay, only 3 out of 11 batsmen managed to score in double figures, while the same number of batters secured ducks.

Desai returned with figures of 7 for 42 and an overall match total of 9/16, but in the second innings, off-spinner Rinkesh Vaghela took 3 for 38.

Earlier Karnataka produced a superb bowling effort, anchored by medium-pacer Vasuki Koushik’s three-wicket haul, to leave Gujarat at 171 for seven on day 3 of their Group C Ranji Trophy encounter here on Sunday. After resuming at 328 for 5, Karnataka scored 46 more runs before being bowled out for 374, taking a 110-run advantage. Gujarat’s first innings ended with them all out at 264.

Gujarat started their second essay poorly, losing four wickets for fifty-two runs. Then, for the fifth wicket, Manan Hingrajia (56), and Kshitij Patel (26), put up a 57-run partnership. Ultimately, Koushik ended the partnership and removed Kshitij, while Hingrajia was bowled by Rohit Kumar (2/42).
