“He is maturing and fulfilling his expectations”: Rohit Sharma Bestows Lauds onto Rinku Singh

On Wednesday, India’s skipper Rohit Sharma said that the southpaw is performing to expectations and that his side needs someone like to Rinku Singh in the latter stages of the innings.

In the third Twenty20 International between India and Afghanistan at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, Rohit Sharma and Rinku Singh amassed 103 runs in the last five overs of the Indian innings, propelling India to 212/4, a stunning comeback from 22/4 in 4.3 overs.

Down 22/4, Rinku joined his captain at the bat and, in the company of Rohit Sharma, struck an unbeaten 69 off 39 balls to save India.

“He demonstrated his bat skills in the past two series he participated in. very composed and somewhat aware of his might. He is maturing and fulfilling his responsibilities, and he has performed well for India.

Rohit, who produced a remarkable 121 not out off 69 balls, said, “It augurs well for the team moving forward. We wanted someone like that at the backend and we know what he has done in the IPL and he has carried that to the Indian colours as well.”

The daring pair put up the greatest partnership on any wicket in a Twenty20 International for India, scoring 190 runs in just 95 balls.

It was a terrific game for us to be in; the pressure was there, so it was crucial to bat deep and long and to not compromise on the purpose we wanted to express. “Creating the partnership was important,” Rinku and I said in a conversation that continued throughout the game.

After the two players’ incredible partnership, the game was far from over as Afghanistan forced India into not one, but two historic Super Overs before the Men in Blue could eventually secure the victory. Ravi Bishnoi’s incredible performance in the second Super Over, where he claimed two wickets in three balls, forced the Afghans into submission.
