I’ll have a ton of experience for the T20 World Cup thanks to the IPL 2024: Azmatullah Omarzai, all-arounder with the Gujarat Titans
Azmatullah Omarzai, an all-rounder from Afghanistan, is eager to compete in the Indian Premier League in 2024. In the 2023 auction, Omarzai was selected by Gujarat Titans for his base price of Rs 50 lakh. Many were taken aback by this, since the young all-round player had shown promise during the 2023 ODI World Cup.
While competing in the Bangladesh Premier League, the all-rounder spoke with Cricbuzz about how the IPL will help him get ready for the T20 World Cup in 2024, which would be held in the Caribbean and the United States of America.
“Playing in the IPL would definitely assist me in the World Cup. “The Indian Premier League is a premier league where major global players compete. Given their vast experience, it will benefit me to have this experience ahead of the World Cup,” Omarzai told Cricbuzz.
“Given the nature of the tournament—all the games are tight, there’s a lot of pressure, and there are a lot of spectators—I will be preparing for the World Cup. There is competition and a positive atmosphere. It would benefit me since I will become used to the pressure throughout the Indian Premier League and the World Cup,” he said.
IPL 2024: Chopra believes Omarzai will be signed to a deal
When asked what his philosophy is, Omarzai, an all-round player, said that he would work hard no matter what setup he plays in. Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmed, who play for the Gujarat Titans, will back Omarzai.
“The IPL strategy is straightforward and applies to everyone. Whether it is IPL, BPL, or any other kind of cricket, I have to put in a lot of effort and have faith in my abilities wherever I go. “I have a very simple motto: believe in your ability and work hard. As long as I practice, work hard, and play matches, I will enter the IPL with a positive mindset,” he said.
In T20Is and T20s, the 23-year-old cricket player has made an impression on fans worldwide. In 74 T20 encounters, he has taken 70 wickets. Omarzai has also performed well with the bat, amassing 802 runs at a 133 strike rate.
