India’s domestic cricket players might make up to Rs 1 crore year with a doubling of their salary: report

Domestic cricket players in India may get a salary increase as a result of the BCCI allegedly requesting Ajit Agarkar, its head of selectors, to develop a strategy. This is in response to the board’s announcement of the “Test Cricket Incentive Scheme” last month, which was created to reward the senior men’s squad for playing Test cricket.

The board believes that domestic cricket players should be paid at least twice as much as they are now, with a payscale that varies from Rs 75 lakh to Rs 1 crore annually based on the number of Ranji Trophy matches played in a season, according to a report in Cricbuzz.

According to the report, a cricket player who has participated in more than 40 Ranji Trophy matches gets paid Rs 60,000 per day, while those who have participated in 20 to 40 Ranji matches are paid Rs 50,000 per day.

However, those with 20 or more Ranji match experience earn Rs 40,000 a day.

The BCCI has announced a number of initiatives to promote red-ball cricket throughout the nation; if the decision is put into action, it will be the most recent.

To “encourage players to engage in the purest format of the sport but also addresses the evolving dynamics of the cricketing landscape, ensuring parity with match fees in other formats and league cricket,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah unveiled the Test Cricket Incentive Scheme in March.

Beginning with the 2022–2023 season, the program serves as an extra incentive structure on top of the Rs. 15 lakhs match money already in place for Test matches.

When not playing for India internationally, players were urged by the BCCI earlier this year to attend home games for their respective clubs.

A statement from the board said, “The BCCI has recommended that all athletes give precedence to participating in domestic cricket during periods when they are not representing the national team.”
