IPL 2024: Glenn Maxwell Takes A Break To Refresh, Saying “It Was A Pretty Easy Decision.”

The all-round player for Royal Challengers Bangalore requested a respite from the team management, so he took a vacation to refuel both physically and psychologically. In IPL 2024, he has been having trouble scoring runs.

He had only managed to score 32 runs in six innings at a pitiful average of 5.33 before to Monday’s game. With only one win in seven games, Bangalore, which is now bottom of the IPL 2024 standings, decided not choose Maxwell for Monday night’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Although there were rumors that Maxwell could have missed the game because of a thumb injury, that was untrue. In an interview with reporters, he said that he felt he “wasn’t contributing in a positive way,” which is why he chose not to play in the Sunrisers match.

In order to be selected again, Maxwell made it clear that he would need to get “into a solid mental and phsical space.”

Personally, I found it to be a really simple choice. After the previous game, I spoke to Faf [du Plessis] and the coaches and told them I thought it was probably time to try someone new. During the press conference after the game, Maxwell said, “I have been in situations where you may keep playing and dig yourself farther and deeper into a hole.

“After the powerplay, which has been my area of strength for the last two seasons, we have had a very significant deficit. Given the outcomes and our current standing, I thought it would be a good idea to give someone else a chance to showcase their skills so that, perhaps, someone could take that slot as their own. I felt like I wasn’t making a constructive contribution with the bat,” Maxwell said.

By the time of IPL 2024, the Australian all-rounder was playing at an elite level. Since the beginning of November, Maxwell has amassed 552 runs with a strike percentage of 185.85 in 17 T20s.

The Australia all-rounder also hit two hundreds during this time. However, Maxwell started IPL 2024 against the reigning champion Chennai Super Kings with a golden duck.

With two more ducks since then, Maxwell has only once survived more than five balls, that being against the Kolkata Knight Riders, when he made a 19-ball 28 thanks to two mishandled catches.

That’s how T20 cricket can be at times; it’s a really erratic sport. I even ran one to the keeper off the center of the bat in the first game. I saw a scoring chance and pretty well read the length, but I opened my face a little too much,” Maxwell said.
against Sunday, April 21, the RCB takes against Kolkata at Eden Gardens. It remains to be seen whether Maxwell is able to participate in that game.
