IPL 2024: Yashasvi Jaiswal is embraced by a “proud” Rohit Sharma after his century-plus return

On Monday, April 22, in front of the T20 World Cup 2024, Yashasvi Jaiswal returned with a bang. In the second innings of the Sawai Mansingh Stadium encounter between RR and MI, Jaiswal struck the game-winning century. After finding it difficult to score runs in his first seven IPL games, Jaiswal took his time and smashed an amazing 104* to help the team reach the 180-run mark.

After the game, India captain Rohit Sharma gave Jaiswal a hug to show the young player how happy he was. Jaiswal was vying for the opening berth in the T20 World Cup team, but his unsatisfactory performance in the first seven IPL games complicated matters. Jaiswal did not hurry his 60-ball knock against MI; instead, he carefully assembled it, taking Hardik Pandya’s team out of the game.

The young player hopes that the global tournament selection committee will see his potential at the top of the batting order and give him a chance. Since the Indian Premier League concluded last year, Jaiswal has been in enviable form. The left-hander was given an India cap in 2023 after his season of 600+ runs. Jaiswal has been in dominant form for India, particularly while playing the game in red-ball style. The young player could not convert his performance as the top hitter in the just finished India vs. England Test series into an IPL season.

After the hit, the renowned Brian Lara praised Jaiswal even more, saying that it was the young player’s greatest innings of the season in terms of approach.

“Yes, the young guy is having a terrific innings. Furthermore, he continues to score at a very high strike rate even when I tell him that he doesn’t need to be so aggressive. However, the reality is that he is playing correct cricket strokes, taking his time, and staring at the ball directly in front of the bat, according to Lara.

The hitter would like to think that his recent run of bad luck is behind him and that this season will be better when he hits a century. With seven victories and only one defeat in their last eight games, RR now sit atop the IPL points standings. Right now, KKR, SRH, and CSK come after RR.
