IPL2024: Faf Du Plessis Fined Rs. 12 Lakh, Sam Curran Struck Hard for Violating IPL Code of Conduct

The captains of Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sam Curran and Faf du Plessis, were fined significantly on Sunday after their respective Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 matches for their offenses. at the first match of the weekend doubleheader, Punjab took on Gujarat Titans at Mullanpur later in the evening, while RCB faced off against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the afternoon at Eden Gardens.

Du Plessis Paid for Sluggish Over-Rate
In contrast to their previous games, RCB performed better with the bat and ball, although they were defeated by only one run. The Royal Challengers, needing to chase 223 runs, were bowled out for 221 in 20 overs.

Captain Faf du Plessis was fined Rs 12 lakh for the infraction, as the visitors continued to overrate at a leisurely pace.

“At the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on April 21, 2024, during Match 36 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Kolkata Knight Riders, Faf du Plessis, captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, has been fined for his team’s slow over-rate,” an IPL statement said.

The statement said, “Rahul was fined INR 12 lakh as it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences.”

Curran violates IPL Code of Conduct Article 2.8.
Punjab Kings dropped their fourth straight game in the evening match in Chandigarh. The Sam Curran-led team was bowled out for 142 and was unable to hold on to the low score as Gujarat managed to take 3 wickets and 5 balls remaining to win.

The home captain was found guilty of violating Article 2.8 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which constitutes a Level 1 offense. Curran complied with the Match Referee’s ruling and was assessed a fine equal to half of his match fees.

According to IPL Code of Conduct Article 2.8, Curran committed a Level 1 offense. He acknowledged the offense and consented to the match referee’s punishment. The Match Referee’s ruling is definitive and enforceable for Level 1 violations of the Code of Conduct, it said.
