Watch: A woman uses grapes, tape, and wrapping paper to recreate Zendaya’s Met Gala 2024 look
A glamorous evening filled with bold dress choices was the Met Gala 2024. According to the theme, “The Garden of Time,” flowery-adorned clothing was all the rage, and celebrities stole the show with their dramatic, high-key looks. Zendaya was one of the several people who made a lasting impression on the fashion police. The Dune actress wore a gown designed by John Galliano for Maison Margiela that was ocean blue in color. An added bonus was her theatrical headpiece. A British artist and content creator recreated Zendaya’s red carpet appearance using common household objects, drawing inspiration from her woodland princess avatar. Her inventiveness is now gaining popularity online.
Although Angelica Hicks is an artist by trade, she has recently made waves for her accurate recreations of famous models’ and celebrities’ red carpet and runway outfits.

The artist could be seen piece by piece building Zendaya’s opulent Met Gala avatar in a recent Instagram video. She chose a green pencil skirt and a long, strapless black top for the base. She then covered herself with shiny green wrapping paper and secured it with tape. The skirt detailing was constructed from transparent black fabric, while the drape over her shoulders was fashioned from a blue stretch of material woven on a tiny loom. To create the ruffled impression, the artist attached a crumpled piece of fabric to her shoulder.
Taking a pineapple out of a fruit net cover, Angelica Hicks used it as a headscarf to mimic Zendaya’s striking hairstyle. She sliced in half two chopsticks, then inserted the long pieces into an enlarged black, see-through cloth and fastened it behind her head. Similar to Zendaya, Angelica wrapped a bunch of grapes around her waist as a fruit-inspired waist adornment. Gathering leaves from her lawn, she encircled her arms with them, completing her homemade version of the Met Gala avatar. After Angelica applied makeup identical to Zendaya’s, the video concluded with her striking several model poses.
The artist received a ton of praise for her avant-garde fashion design. “This woman deserves her own design label,” said a pleasantly surprised person. “Impressive. You ought to be at the Met Gala, another person said. One said, “She won the internet today.”
