IPL2024: The Lucknow Super Giants defeat the Royal Challengers Bengaluru behind Pacy Mayank Yadav

BENGALURU: The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated the hosts Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 28 runs on Tuesday in the Indian Premier League. While two Bengaluru boys, KL Rahul (20) and Devdutt Padikkal (6), struggled in their backyard, their teammates Quinton de Kock (81; 56b; 8×4; 5×6) and Mayank Yadav (3-14) made themselves at home.
After trailing LSG’s formidable 181-5 for 19.4 overs, RCB was reduced to 153 runs.

If de Kock kept his dancing shoes on throughout his furious blowout, Mayank forced the RCB hitters to follow his exacting pace and movements. The 21-year-old, who could often reach speeds of up to 150 kmph, plagued the RCB hitters, who were outpaced by pace and found it difficult to judge Mayank’s lengths.
As a replacement for Quinton de Kock, spinner M Siddharth made an impression by taking out Virat Kohli, the rookie’s first-ever IPL wicket. Padikkal slid beneath the skier at backward point, and Kohli attempted an expansive shot that just almost connected.
Padikkal was in incredible form as a fielder, despite having a bad day at bat. As captain Faf du Plessis attempted to take a nonexistent single from Mayank, he was caught short of the crease by a quick throw from Padikkal at midwicket.

RCB considered Mayank unplayable because to the slower surface at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Glenn Maxwell felt the taste of his lack of consideration for the batsmen as he top-edged to Nicholas Pooran at midon. Cameron Green trailed quickly behind, losing his off stump in the process and being crushed by Mayank’s speed.
Only Impact player Mahipal Lamror (33 off 13 balls) was able to leave an impact during the batters’ procession.
LSG got off to a brilliant start after being invited to bat on a demanding surface. Reece Topley, a left-arm bowler who replaced Alzarri Joseph, began the bowling and was met by a barrage of boundaries from de Kock. The 31-year-old starter matched Topley with a sly punch and delicious drives, displaying composure and confidence in equal measure.

In the fourth over, Maxwell (2/23) was called into the attack after the pacers were unable to stop De Kock’s wild ways. After bowling only eight overs in three matches thus far in the league, the off-spinner, who has not been used much, struck in his second over.
Rahul chased a short ball but failed to predict the bounce after hitting a longer one from the Australian over deep backward point. After making a little delivery error, Mayank Dagar caught him at covers.
Even though he had a tremendous season, Padikkal has been having trouble in the IPL, and Tuesday was no exception. The left-handed hitter looked uncomfortable against 11 deliveries, and Mohammed Siraj put a stop to his suffering. After a brief delivery, Padikkal attempted the safe pull short but only succeeded in getting a thick edge. Wicketkeeper Anuj Rawat then signalled a good catch at short third man.

After Maxwell had Marcus Stoinis’ (24) number, the RCB bowlers tightened up their delivery until they encountered Pooran, who has an impressive strike rate of 217.4 at the ground.
Anuj Rawat dropped the West Indian off Topley for two, and he punished them with an undefeated forty (21b; 1×4; 5×6). De Kock was taken out by Topley, and Dagar made the catch just inches from the long-off boundary.
