Just one match separates Sumit Nagal from the Australian Open main draw

Sumit Nagal of India advanced to the last round of the qualifying competition on Thursday, meaning he is only one win away from the Australian Open main draw. In the second qualifying round at the KIA Arena, Nagal defeated Australian wild card Edward Winter 6-3, 6-2 in one hour and four minutes.

To secure a spot in the actual Grand Slam that opens the season, the 26-year-old Indian will take against Slovakia’s Alex Molcan in the championship round on Friday. With a victory on Friday, Nagal—who is ranked 139th in the world in the singles rankings—will advance to the main round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time since 2021 and fourth overall.

In 2019 and 2020, he reached the US Open main round. In 2021, he participated in the Australian Open main draw.
