Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic wins the 400-meter gold at World Athletics 2023

After earning silver medals in the previous year’s global championships and the Tokyo Olympics, Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic won the women’s 400-meter race on Wednesday at the global Championships.

The event was very competitive due to the absence of injured American Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, who holds the 400-meter hurdles world record and is the fastest woman in the world this year on a flat course, as well as the elimination of Olympic and reigning world champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo in the preliminary rounds.

Second-fastest this year, Paulino, started in lane 7 and drove steadily to take the lead as he rounded the last curve and sped home to a 48.76-second triumph.

Natalia Kaczmarek of Poland won silver in 49.57, while Sada Williams of Barbados came in second in 49.60.
