‘Nervous’ Harry Kane scores in Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga debut. Outscore Werder Bremen

After helping his team win 4-0 against Werder Bremen in the season opener on Friday, England striker Harry Kane said he was “nervous” for his Bayern Munich debut.

Kane, who moved from Premier League team Tottenham on Saturday for a reported 100 million euros ($109 million), assisted on Leroy Sane’s goal after only three minutes of play before scoring halfway through the second half.

One year after the German champions parted ways with striker Robert Lewandowski, Kane was hailed as the missing link. On his Bundesliga debut, Kane linked play excellently, coming near many times before scoring in the 75th minute.

Kane’s strike put an end to Bremen’s comeback in the second half and let the floodgates open.

Bayern concluded the first day in their normal spot at the head of the league standings thanks to goals from Sane and French youngster Mathys Tel, who had taken Kane’s position.

‘Instinct takes control’

Kane told broadcaster DAZN that “It was a good night” after the game. With a goal in the opening five minutes, we were off to a good start.

“Of course, I was both anxious and eager to play the game.

There were undoubtedly some butterflies, but as usual when I get onto the field, instinct takes over.

Thomas Tuchel, the coach of Bayern Munich, applauded his players’ composure, saying to DAZN: “We stayed calm, patient, and we didn’t go crazy.”

“We played very well, from beginning to end.”

Ole Werner, the manager of Bremen, attributed the “clear” defeat on a shaky beginning, saying in the post-game news conference that “we held back too much, we stood too deep.”

Germany striker Niclas Fuellkrug, Kane’s opponent’s number nine, said that his team’s dismal first half drove them to take chances.

“Playing against Bayern is always dangerous because they have quality and speed.”

Bayern, who have won the last 11 consecutive Bundesliga championships, last dropped a round as defending champions in 2001. They last lost a season opener in 2011.

Bayern entered the season under fire after stumbling to the championship last year, especially after they were destroyed 3-0 by RB Leipzig in the German FA Supercup last Saturday.

Sane’s goal was assisted by Kane, who calmed Bayern’s fears after only three minutes.

After only three minutes, Kane intercepted a close-range Sane pass on the halfway line and chipped the ball over Bremen’s defense and back to the former Man City winger.

Sane, who has been criticism often for passing up opportunities since returning to Germany, sprinted 30 yards before slipping the ball past Jiri Pavlenka and into the bottom corner.

Bremen rallied despite the absence of injured newcomer Naby Keita, a shock summer signing from Liverpool, thanks to top scorer Fuellkrug.

After eight minutes, the Germany striker had the ball in the back of the goal, but his headed attempt was disallowed for a little offside.

Kane received a feed from Canadian defender Alphonso Davies, controlled it, and fired before Bremen successfully held off Bayern for the rest of the first half. When the ball entered the goal, it deflected just a little bit.

With five minutes left, Kane was substituted by Tel, who scored in stoppage time to give the visitors a comfortable victory.
