No-nonsense Opinion from Sunil Gavaskar on Virat, Rohit Sharma’s Batting Positions

Sunil Gavaskar, a legendary Indian batsman, commented on Ravi Shastri’s idea that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma should drop down the batting order in order to make room for Ishan Kishan ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023. The position at number 4 bats has been the subject of the most discussion, and Rohit even mentioned it at his press conference after the announcement of India’s team for the Asia Cup 2023.

Gavaskar expressed the same ideas as the Indian skipper, who emphasized that the Men in Blue must stay “flexible,” although he insisted that Rohit shouldn’t switch positions at the plate while making the suggestion that Kohli could be attempted at number 4.

The middle order is still a worry since KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer haven’t played a single game in India’s colors in the previous several months while they’ve been recovering from their individual ailments.

“Nobody on the team should be able to claim that I am competent in this role. When necessary, we want individuals who can bat wherever. This has been the case for a long time, not just right now. It has been communicated. This is not club cricket; rather, it is international cricket. Regarding the shifting in the middle order, Rohit said at the presser on Monday that they must be prepared to play in any position that the team need.

The Indian skipper shouldn’t drop down in the batting order, according to Gavaskar, who also suggested that Kohli play at number 4 if necessary if India loses a few early wickets.

“Any team has to be adaptable…I don’t want to upset the established order, however. Rohit Sharma shouldn’t attempt to bat lower in the order, in my opinion. In an interview with India Today, Gavaskar remarked, “Yes, you may consider playing Kohli at No. 4, especially if a wicket goes early since the new ball might inflict some early damage.

“Every time India has lost, I believe the new ball is to blame. In the first 10 to 12 overs, India has lost three to four wickets, and out of these wickets, Sharma and Kohli have taken two of them, making the situation challenging. Perhaps consider it based on the circumstances, he continued.
