Prepare batting-friendly pitches for the World Cup, according to ICC’s explicit instructions to Indian curators: Report

In order to promote run-scoring, ‘batting-friendly’ tracks are to be created as India prepares for the ICC World Cup in 2023. The main round gets underway on October 5 in Ahmedabad when reigning champions England take on New Zealand. The tournament will last 44 days and include up to 48 games spread across 10 locations. The championship game will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium on November 19 between the top two teams.

The ICC has given the host organizations specific guidelines for pitch maintenance before to the much anticipated tournament: “Provide a 60-40 pitch conducive to batting.”

According to reports, ICC pitch expert Andy Atkinson spoke to a group of all host association curators on Wednesday and urged them not to succumb to outside pressure to rake the grass off the playing surfaces in preparation for certain matches.

The run scoring information from the previous three 50-over World Cups was also included in the report. It was discovered that the 2011 World Cup, which was played in Bangladesh, India, and Sri Lanka, had the lowest average first innings score (249 runs). The average increased significantly to 275 runs for the 2015 edition, which was played in Australia and New Zealand, and it increased even more to 276 runs for the most recent edition, played in England.

The ICC wants the next edition to be a high-scoring spectacle since attendance has increased over time, particularly now that some players are questioning the 50-over format.

a set of guidelines for the outfield

According to the report, the host organizations have also been instructed to prevent excessive cutting in order to make the ball go more quickly. The minimum and maximum border dimensions are 70 and 80 yards, respectively. There should be at least three center-wicket pitches available for play.

Availability during a rain delay

It was advised that venues without sand-based outfields have coverings in place to cover the whole field in case of rain.

The competition will be place throughout

Ten locations in India will host the competition. Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Chennai, Lucknow, Dharamsala, and Pune will each host five games, while Pune will host three.
