Reacting to matching Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli

An item of content After making history on Sunday in front of a crowded Eden Gardens, Virat Kohli remained composed. During an India vs. South Africa World Cup 2023 match in Kolkata, Kohli scored his 49th ODI century.

Along with batting great Sachin Tendulkar, Kohli is now the joint top century maker in the history of the game.

Kohli became the third batsman in the league to get 500 runs during the innings, after Quinton de Kock and Rachin Ravindra.

During the intermission, Kohli expressed his gratitude to the gods for allowing him to play and help the team win.

“It’s the stuff of dreams to score 100 on your birthday, and I’m grateful for these experiences and the support of my fans,” he said.

Tendulkar, one of the most reliable hitters in the history of the game, needed 451 innings to reach the 49-century mark, whilst Kohli needed only 277 innings.

As India raced to 91/1 in 10 overs, Kohli showed that the Kolkata pitch wasn’t as simple as Rohit Sharma had made it seem. Kohli began the innings with a blistering 40-run innings.

It was a challenging surface to bat on, but Rohit and Shubman (Gill) gave us a terrific start. It was up to me to keep it continuing. After the tenth over, the ball began to grip and turn; it slowed down, and my job was to bat deep while the others played around me. The team management conveyed the information to me,” he stated.

Following the departure of the openers, Kohli and Shreyas Iyer came together to take the load and lower the anchor. After a quiet beginning, Iyer took on the role of the enforcer as the batting pair stitched a century partnership for the third wicket.

We scored a couple more runs in the latter moments thanks to Shreyas’ strong performance. We bat at 3 and 4, thus this cooperation was necessary to advance the game. We had a lot of conversations throughout the Asia Cup. We had to go deep and win the game since we didn’t have Hardik on the squad, so we knew that losing a wicket or two might be costly.
