Rohit Sharma is “still not done yet,” according to a former world champion, and “He’ll Win India a World Cup as Captain”

After getting a duck in India’s first game of the season last week against Australia in Chennai, Rohit Sharma was under pressure. Even though the men in blue won by six wickets to begin their ICC ODI World Cup 2023 campaign, the captain’s performance looked to be a huge problem. It didn’t last long, however, as he quickly rebounded against Afghanistan with a century that broke the record, laying the groundwork for a decisive win.

With his blazing century, Rohit also broke other records. As the Indian captain, it was his first hundred in an ODI World Cup match. It was the quickest century by an Indian in tournament history, moving him over legendary ODI World Cup blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s total of six hundreds.

A great plus for Team India is that the seasoned batsman reached 100 runs right before the crucial match against arch-rival Pakistan. Yuvraj Singh, a former all-rounder for India, thinks Rohit is still young and has high hopes that the 36-year-old can break the country’s ten-year ICC trophy drought.

“Rohit Sharma has broken several significant records; I believe he have the talent to shatter any record. He really is one of the greats of the sport. His 31 ODI hundreds represent a significant accomplishment. He still has work to do, and maybe he can lead India to a World Cup victory. In the second stage, he acted as an opener. Previously, he batted in the middle order,” Yuvraj was cited by ANI as adding.

The Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the historic match when India plays Pakistan at home for the first time in seven years. Shubman Gill, who missed the first two games against Australia and Afghanistan due to dengue, is expected to return, according to the hosts. He started training the next day after arriving in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

News18 Cricketnext said earlier on Thursday that Gill came at the GCA facility “around 11 am” and batted for over an hour. The India opener was joined by some throw-down experts, and he had a legitimate hit – not just a casual whack with the bat.

“Shubman Gill spent the morning here and played for an hour. When he was at bat, not many people were around, and as soon as he finished his hit, he departed the area, a GCA official informed Cricketnext.
