Serie A: AC Milan defeats Torino, while Roma lose at Verona, thanks to a goal from Christian Pulisic

In Saturday’s 4-1 victory against Torino, Cristian Pulisic added another goal to his impressive start for AC Milan. Roma, however, suffered a humiliating 2-1 loss at Verona.

In the 33rd minute, Pulisic scored his second goal in as many games since joining Milan from Chelsea. This time, Milan won in front of a crowded San Siro, which was seeing a new-look club for the first time this season.

After a fantastic ball exchange with fellow former Blue Ruben Loftus-Cheek, USA star Christian Pulisic swept in the opening goal. Peer Schuurs then surprised the crowd with a shockingly swift equalizer.

Olivier Giroud, though, gave Milan the advantage again from the spot after Alessandro Buongiorno was called for handball after a VAR review.

After an excellent combination play with Rafael Leao, Theo Hernandez then increased Milan’s advantage in the last seconds of the first half.

As Torino’s chances of winning were already slim at that time, coach Ivan Juric shook his head on the sidelines after another VAR examination resulted in another questionable Milan penalty kick.

Midway into the second half, Giroud scored his third goal in Milan’s first two games to put the hosts three up and end a mostly one-sided game.

Verona, who is playing Roma while waiting to know whether Romelu Lukaku would join them on loan from Chelsea, surprised Roma with victories from Ondrej Duda and Cyril Ngonge in the first half to maintain a flawless six-point lead over Milan.

After giving up two careless goals to lose at the Stadio Bentegodi, Roma, though, seemed to be a squad in need of more than simply a striker.

In the fourth minute, Rui Patricio deflected a stinging effort from Filippo Terracciano into the path of an appreciative Duda, and Ngonge breezed past Chris Smalling much too easily to double the hosts’ advantage just before halftime.

Roma came back into the match 11 minutes after the interval thanks to a goal from Houssem Aouar, but they were unable to go through even after Isak Hien was sent with six minutes left for rugby tackling Andrea Belotti as the Italian striker raced towards goal.

Roma, playing without Jose Mourinho, who is out on suspension, had two attempts from Bryan Cristante and one from a strong Lorenzo Pellegrini free-kick after Hien was sent off, but they were unable to combine their control with clear opportunities to score.
