Shubman Gill’s Final Rejection from the WTC: McGrath Delivers His Decision

Glenn McGrath, a legendary Australian bowler, has spoken on the contentious dismissal of Shubman Gill during the World Test Championship Final. During the epic World Tennis Championship final between Australia and India, the Cameron Green catch caused debate. India’s choice proved to be expensive as they were defeated by 209 runs in the WTC Final and were unable to break their ICC title drought.

India had a strong counterattacking start while chasing the 444-run goal, but Green’s catch to get Gill out completely turned the tide in favor of the Asian Giants. The opening ball of the seventh over was a delivery from Scott Bolland that Gill edged to the slip because it swung back in for him. Instinctively diving to his left and grabbing a one-handed stunner, Green made the great catch. The third umpire was asked to provide a verdict after carefully considering various viewpoints. Although Green collapsed, several spectators believed the ball had already touched the ground.

McGrath expressed satisfaction with the outcome and advised that sometimes we find methods to keep the choice a secret.”I believe that most of those captures are invalid. We come up with strategies for keeping it private, which is how I like to do things. I was thus pleased with it,” McGrath told PTI.

The renowned bowler said that his viewpoint would have remained same even if the Indian player had successfully secured the catch.

And I would have been pleased if India had taken that catch. I’m not just stating this from an Australian viewpoint; this is really how things are,” he said.

The 53-year-old said that Pat Cummins and company’s victory over India in the WTC Final served as the ideal warm-up for their upcoming Ashes campaign, which begins on Friday.

“It (the WTC) was the ideal lead-up for Australia into the Ashes, giving them a great deal of confidence and the ability to play in the conditions. So I believe they are in a fantastic position,” he said.

Despite being a huge Bazball supporter, McGrath made the prediction that Australia would win 5-0.

“Bazball is getting a lot of attention in England, and I love it. It’s an aggressive approach, and if you can get on top of the bowlers, you can score runs fast and put pressure back on them. I think that you should support yourself and go out there and be confident. Fourth innings are when you should go out and play your shot. “My forecast is 5-nil,” he said.
