South Zone defeated West Zone for the Duleep Trophy. In Order To Win The Title, 75 Runs

Putting the final touches on their dominance over the previous four days, South Zone defeated West Zone by 75 runs on Sunday to win the Duleep Trophy.

West Zone, who were overnight 182/5, were bowled out for 222 while chasing 298 to win. Sai Kishore, a left-arm spinner, and Vasuki Koushik, a pacer, were the South Zone’s top two bowlers, splitting seven wickets between them.

South won the Duleep Trophy for the 14th time with this victory, and they will see it as sweet retaliation. South had lost to West by 294 runs in the 2022 championship game.

The greatest obstacle on South’s path to the title was Priyank Panchal, who began the day on 92 and could only add three runs this morning.

West fell to 189 for 6 when Panchal edged bowler Vidwath Kaverappa, who was eventually named man of the match, to Ricky Bhui behind the stumps. When Vidwath snatched the ball away from Panchal, the latter fatally hung his bat outside.

Their realistic hopes of winning the match were likewise eliminated by the dismissal.

There were times of fabricated elation. For the eighth wicket, Atit Sheth and Dharmendra Jadeja, who often goes off against South sides, combined 23 runs.

West was able to surpass 200 runs thanks to the 54-minute stand, and they could have quietly hoped for a miracle.

But not on this particular day. Jadeja skied spinner Sai Kishore in an attempt to clear the ring, but Washington Sundar settled down neatly beneath the ball.

Following that, it was just a question of time. The moment of South’s triumph occurred when Sheth lofted Sai Kishore directly into Washington’s palms at long range.

Perhaps Sheth intended to make several short runs on the wide-open field, but his shot was unable to locate the target.
