Pakistan, on the other hand, had yet another difficult session in which they worked hard but achieved nothing. One of their rare shining moments has been the rookie Aamer Jamal, who is currently one wicket shy of his first-ever five-wicket haul in a Test match. Pakistan needed to battle their way back into the game after getting off to a slow start to the day. The fact that Shaheen Afridi and Khurram Shahzad were mostly inconsistent even with the second new ball, which was around three overs old, meant that the Australian hitters were not put under any strain. Before accounting for Mitchell Starc a few overs later, Aamer Jamal delivered a peach to get rid of Alex Carey just when it seemed like Pakistan was losing ground. Pakistan, however, now finds itself up against it as the remainder of the bowling unit was unable to provide assistance from the other end. Would Pakistan put up a fight? Come back for the post-lunch session at 10.30 am IST (5 am GMT) to find out.

SUMMARY OF THE SESSION: 130 runs, 26 overs, 2 wickets. Australia has once again dominated the opening session, just as it did on Day 1! They currently hold a comfortable lead after adding 130 runs to their 346 total from the previous night. Day 2 began with Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey keeping a close eye on Australia. Marsh was the first off the blocks, but Carey eventually joined in as his confidence increased. Of the two batsmen, Marsh was the more aggressive, scoring his sixth fifty in a Test match. He and Carey put Australia in a better position with their partnership of ninety runs. Marsh persevered in spite of losing a few wickets, and with Pat Cummins’ assistance, he is currently 10 runs short of a century on his home field. Australia will be happy with their current total, but they will be looking to chase down an even higher total in order to force Pakistan out of the match.
