USA exits the FIBA Basketball World Cup without a medal when Canada defeats them in the bronze-medal game

After losing to Canada in the bronze-medal game on Sunday, head coach Steve Kerr said that the United States “didn’t defend well enough” in the Basketball World Cup and left without any hardware.

After placing seventh in China in 2019, the United States lost 127-118 in overtime and missed out on a medal for the second consecutive World Cup.

After losing to Lithuania in the second round and Germany in the semifinals, the Americans suffered their third loss of the competition.

Canada finished on the podium in the World Cup for the first time, and Kerr said his side “tried everything” to prevent them.

When it came down to it, Kerr said, “We put ourselves in a great position for us in this tournament. We got to the semi-finals, and we were right there. We just didn’t get enough stops.”

“Against Germany or Canada, we didn’t defend well enough. The bottom line is that.

Paolo Banchero, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Brandon Ingram were absent from Kerr due to illnesses they contracted when a sickness spread around the US camp.

The Americans trailed in the first and third quarters, but Mikal Bridges’ game-tying three-pointer with 0.2 seconds left forced overtime.

As soon as the extra session began, Canada regained control by scoring the first five goals.

Anthony Edwards, who ended with 24 points to lead all scorers for the Americans, remarked, “They did what they had to do.”

“They won the match.”

Later on Sunday, Germany was scheduled to compete against Serbia.

Since defeating Serbia in the World Cup final in 2014, the United States has not taken home the trophy.

“It’s hard,” Kerr remarked.

These teams are very talented, well-coordinated, and have a history of playing together.

It’s challenging and has already shown to be challenging.
