With his historic century, Jos Buttler helps RR surpass their own record for the most successful run chase in IPL history

New Delhi: Jos Buttler lit up Eden Gardens on fire on Tuesday night, delivering one of the biggest hits in Indian Premier League history during a chase. It was both a masterpiece and an insane display of skill. When it seemed that the Rajasthan Royals’ chances of winning the IPL 2024 would be limited, Buttler’s incredible century opened the eyes and windows of both the opposition and the spectators. The Royals defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders by two wickets.

With nine boundaries and six enormous sixes in only sixty balls, Buttler’s 107 runs helped RR win their sixth title in the lucrative 17th season of the tournament. The English star put on a one-man show that crushed the KKR team’s dreams of winning at home by pushing them into the wall.

Buttler improves RR’s own performance
The sort of performance the dangerous England batsman performed made it evident that such a tremendous knock brought in some records. By smashing his second century in IPL 2024, Buttler assisted RR in surpassing their own record for the greatest run chase in IPL history, which they had achieved in 2020. Four years ago, RR defeated Punjab Kings by four wickets after chasing down 224 runs. The Sanju Samson-led team defeated the KKR by two wickets on Tuesday despite having to chase down the same target.

Mumbai Indians had the third-highest successful run chase in the 2021 season against Chennai Super Kings, winning by 4 wickets after they chased down 219 runs.

RR is speeding toward eliminations.
With six wins in their last seven games, the Royals are on their way to the knockout stages and will undoubtedly be the first club to make it there. With their outstanding play in every game, their remarkable net run rate as a result, and their extreme good fortune, RR seem to be the front-runners for both the championship race and the knockout round.
