Baggage Checked in by Wife of UP District Magistrate Missing Rs 15-L Valuables, Staff Booked on Airlines

Manju Singh, the wife of District Magistrate (DM) Manvendra Singh in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, has filed a lawsuit against a well-known airline’s employees after her checked luggage, which contained jewelry and cash valued at Rs. 15 lakh, went “missing” on January 28 as she was traveling from Delhi to Hyderabad.

Ramprasad Sharma, station house officer, Civil Lines Police Station, Moradabad, said, “We have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), and other related charges against unidentified employees of the airlines.”

The incident happened about 11 p.m., as Singh was ready to take a flight from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport to Hyderabad, according to the FIR. “Just before takeoff, a flight attendant or airport official came up to me and requested that I give over the bag I was carrying. They said the bag would be routed via cargo and I would get it at my destination. There was Rs 15 lakh worth of jewelry and cash in the bag. In the FIR, Singh said, “I boarded the flight after the official also handed over the slip.”

The FIR went on to say that when she questioned the authorities about her suitcase upon arriving at her destination, they directed her to get it from belt number 37. When she finally asked the authorities about her baggage after a lengthy delay, they assured her that she would hear from them in a week. She chose to file the complaint because, even after a week, she still hadn’t received a sufficient answer from the airlines.

“At the time of boarding, officials at the airport took the bag,” Manvendra Singh said. But it was never given back. We filed a formal complaint, and the issue is now being looked into.
