Cop and Car Thief Are Shot During a Police Interaction in Sultanpur, UP

After a violent altercation with police in which he and a policeman were shot, a suspected auto thief was apprehended here at a location under the Motigarhpur Police Station, a police official said on Saturday.

According to Jaisinghpur Circle Officer Prashant Kumar Singh, the incident happened Friday night about 10 pm at a checkpoint.

When they were stopped for a check, a car’s occupants shot at police, who then returned fire, according to him.

Constable Janardan Yadav, 30, and Sher Ali alias Shera, who has a history of robberies and vehicle thefts, were both shot during the altercation and taken to a community health center before being sent to the district hospital, he said.

After the confrontation, an SUV, a motorbike, a gun produced in the country, and some ammo were taken, according to Singh. Shravan and Veeru, his two accomplices, who are both from the Jaunpur district, are missing, according to the police.
