LS polls: Kannauj-based SP head Akhilesh Yadav submits nomination papers

Kannauj: Akhilesh Yadav, the head of the Samajwadi Party, submitted his nomination papers for the Kannauj Lok Sabha seat on Thursday.

In front of Ram Gopal Yadav and other party officials, Yadav submitted his candidacy.

As the SP candidate from Kannauj, Akhilesh took Tej Pratap Yadav’s seat. Tej is his nephew.

Speaking with the media, Ram Gopal Yadav predicted that the SP would win the seat by a landslide.

“The BJP candidate might lose his deposit in the seat,” he said.

First elected to the Kannauj Lok Sabha in 2000, Akhilesh also served as its representative in 2004 and 2009.

The SP had announced Tej Pratap Yadav, his nephew, as its contender for the Kannauj parliamentary seat on Monday, but on Wednesday it had reversed its mind.
