Muslim couple in Uttar Pradesh were killed after their son eloped with a Hindu girl in Sitapur

In Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday, a man and his wife were brutally murdered by their neighbors using iron rods and sticks. The victim’s son reportedly had an affair with the daughter of one of the suspects, according to the police, who have detained three persons in connection with the murder. While Abbas and Kamrul Nisha were resting in their house, a bunch of guys with iron rods and sticks attacked the couple. They passed away instantly.
According to the authorities, several members of the accused family plotted the assault because they were upset that Abbas’s son had just eloped with their daughter. The son was ultimately let out of prison, but the family reportedly still had grudges against him.

Shaukat Rampal, his brother Irfan Rampal, and their cousin Irshad Rampal have been named as the defendants. Two further suspects are still being sought by the police.

Locals in the region are furious over the occurrence and want the perpetrators to face justice. The police have told us that they would take all necessary steps to see that the offenders are brought to justice.

The incident brings to light the expanding issue of honour murders in India. The National Crime Records Bureau estimated that 2,539 honor murders occurred in India in 2020. In comparison to the 2,305 instances recorded in 2019, this is a considerable rise.

There still has to be more done by the government to address the issue of honour murders. In these circumstances, the police must be more diligent in their investigation, and the courts must impose harsh punishments on the offenders.

We can only hope to put a stop to this horrific practice by adopting these actions.
