The Yogi Adityanath administration releases funds for sports equipment for all schools

The Yogi Adityanath administration in Uttar Pradesh has set aside Rs 90 crore to buy sports equipment for 1.3 lakh state-run elementary and upper primary schools.

Under the Samagra Shiksha scheme, each primary school will get Rs 5,000, and each upper primary would receive Rs 10,000 for the purchase of athletic items.

A committee led by the president of the school management committee (SMC) will handle the purchase.

A.K. Tiwari, special secretary for basic education, issued an order in which he said that by bringing people from all social and economic backgrounds together via similar interests in sports and physical education, the government hopes to foster a sense of teamwork among the pupils.

Children who learn to respect the body, both their own and that of others, will benefit from helping the mind and body grow together. The order said that it will further boost academic accomplishment, social and cognitive growth, and self-confidence.

According to the standards, schools should promote traditional games and assign one teacher every school to be in charge of maintaining the stock and caring for the sports equipment.

Each school would be visited by district and block education officials, block resource coordinators, and cluster resource coordinators to assess the availability of equipment and its use. Regular inspection and third-party verification would also be carried out to check on the utilization of the equipment.
