Phase 6 Lok Sabha polls: 27.06 percent of Uttar Pradesh voters cast ballots till 11 a.m

In Uttar Pradesh, where voting is taking place in 14 seats during the sixth round of the Lok Sabha elections, a turnout of 27.06 percent was registered up until 11 a.m.

The polls are expected to be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Election Commission reports that the highest turnout was registered in Ambedkar Nagar (30.02%), followed by Basti (29.80%), Azamgarh (28.60%), Lalganj (28.40%), Sultanpur (28.05%), Domariaganj (27.74%), and Sant Kabir Nagar (27.35%).

Machhlishahar had the highest turnout (27.18%), followed by Jaunpur (26.71%), Shrawasti (26.69%), Pratapgarh (26.35%), Bhadohi (25.51%), and Allahabad (23.88%). In Phulpur, the voter turnout was 22.85 percent.

Up to 11 a.m., the Gainsari Assembly bypoll polling percentage was 26.04 percent.

Polling booth number 343 in the Farrukhabad Lok Sabha constituency is also undergoing re-elections. Re-election was required when a video showing a youngster casting many ballots went viral on the internet. The video was noted by the EC.

Maneka Gandhi, a BJP candidate in Sultanpur, is running for a ninth term as an MP. The former Union minister faces up against Uday Raj Verma of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Ram Bhual Nishad of the Samajwadi Party (SP).

Neeraj Tripathi, the son of former West Bengal governor Kesari Nath Tripathi and BJP candidate, is competing against Ujjwal Raman Singh of the Congress from Allahabad.

In Azamgarh, incumbent Member of Parliament Dinesh Lal Yadav ‘Nirahua’ is up against SP candidate Dharmendra Yadav in an attempt to keep the seat for the BJP. In the 2022 bypoll, Nirahua defeated Yadav. Akhilesh Yadav, the head of the SP, has won the seat in the 2019 elections.

In the race in Jaunpur are Kripashankar Singh of the BJP, Babu Singh Khushwaha of the SP, and current BSP MP Shyam Singh Yadav.

Lalitesh Pati Tripathi of the Trinamool Congress is contesting in Bhadohi, while Ritesh Pandey of the BJP is facing Lalji Verma of the SP in Ambedkar Nagar.

Laxmikant, also known as Pappu Nishad, of the SP is running against Praveen Nishad, the current MP for the BJP in Sant Kabir Nagar.

With eighty MPs, Uttar Pradesh has the most representation in the Lok Sabha.

In the first five stages of voting, 53 seats have been decided thus far. On June 1, the remaining 13 seats will cast ballots in the seventh round.

On June 4, the votes from all seven election stages will be tallied.
