Shahi Eidgah: Muslim side applauds the HC’s decision to postpone the hearing

The Allahabad High Court’s order to postpone till January 11 the hearing on the details and makeup of the commission tasked with surveying the Shahi Eidgah grounds in Mathura was accepted by the Intezamia Committee for Shahi Eidgah.

The Committee’s secretary and lawyer, Tanveer Ahmed, questioned the urgency of those requesting a survey at the Shai Eidgah Mosque. Since it is a well-guarded building and is under CRPF observation, any wrongdoing is eliminated.

“The case will now be heard on January 11 following the Supreme Court’s January 9 hearing of a special leave petition against the May 26, 2023, order of the high court for the transfer of all cases pertaining to Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Eidgah Mosque that are pending before a Mathura court,” according to Tanveer Ahmed.

Mahendra Pratap Singh, one of the petitioners in cases that were moved from the Mathura court to the Allahabad High Court, said he had come to Prayagraj from Mathura expecting something “big” on Monday, but he was not surprised by the Muslim side’s decision to postpone the matter for “reasons best known to them.”

Many have been waiting for generations for the Shahi Eidgah Mosque to be removed and a large temple to be built at the location of Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi. Delays of many days thus don’t really matter. On his way back to Mathura from Allahabad, Singh said, “We’ll wait until January 11.”
