Still undecided about going to the Ram Temple event in Ayodhya: Mayawati

Lucknow: BSP chief Mayawati said on Monday that while she is appreciative of the invitation to the consecration ceremony on January 22 at the Ram temple in Ayodhya, she hasn’t decided whether to go yet due to certain party events.

Being a secular party, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) respects all faiths.

At a news conference held here on her 68th birthday, Mayawati said, “Our party will have no objection to that also, if any such programme is held regarding the Babri Masjid in the future.”

The Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title litigation was settled by the Supreme Court in 2019, paving the way for the construction of the temple on the contested Ayodhya parcel of property where the mosque had stood before being demolished.

“I have been invited to the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ (consecration ceremony) scheduled for Ayodhya on January 22. In response to a query, Mayawati said, “I haven’t decided yet whether or not to attend the program because I am currently very busy with my party’s programs.”

“Our party welcomes any program addressing the Ayodhya Ram temple that is scheduled for January 22 and has no objections to it. Our party will not oppose if a similar event is organized in the future about the Babri Masjid, the speaker said.

“Our party is a secular party and respects all religions equally,” said the BSP head. regardless of the faith. Our party has not opposed anybody. The only secular party in the nation is the Bahujan Samaj Party.”

“The invitation letter for the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ program is much appreciated. I’m still not sure whether I’ll go there or not. The media will be notified of any decision made in this respect, Mayawati continued.

Participating in the consecration event on January 22nd, which is anticipated to draw thousands of people, including seers, is Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
