UP: When a woman refuses to marry her cousin, he attacks her

In the Banda district of Uttar Pradesh, a 25-year-old lady was reportedly stabbed by her cousin after she turned down his marriage proposal, leaving her with significant injuries, according to police on Saturday. They said that Gyan Prakash, 26, the woman’s maternal uncle’s son, is a fugitive.

The lady was residing in DM Colony, which is within the jurisdiction of Kotwali police station, at her maternal uncle’s home. According to Lakshmi Niwas Mishra, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), she and Prakash were both enrolled at the same law school. Prakash used a knife to stab his cousin in the neck at about six o’clock on Friday evening. The Government Medical College accepted the lady. According to the ASP, her health is serious.

So far, the inquiry has shown that Gyan Prakash wanted to wed her. He assaulted her after she turned down his proposal of marriage. The culprit has been named in a case, and search operations are underway to apprehend him, Mishra said.
