“12 tries, 7 Mains, 5 interviews, NO SELECTION”: UPSC candidate tweets about her ordeal in a trending post

On Tuesday, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) released the results of the 2023 Civil Services Exam. While IIT Kanpur graduate Aditya Srivastava received an AIR 1 in the UPSC 2023, another UPSC candidate spoke about his difficulties in an X post.

“12 tries, 7 primary, 5 interview. Not a choice. Perhaps life is just a fight with a different name, as Kunal R. Virulkar put it in his writing. In addition, he uploaded a photo of himself in front of the UPSC headquarters in Delhi.

On the microblogging site, the message went viral and received over 2.1 million views. Online users encouraged Kunal by posting in the comments area.

“Kunal, more power to you,” wrote IAS officer Awanish Sharan.

One more person wrote, “Bhai sahab.” There may be a very good reason for you to get ready. It’s not simple to give five interviews and seven mains. I wish you well in anything you do, sir.

UPSC outcome
The UPSC test was passed by 1,016 applicants this year, and they have been recommended for employment to the Central Services Group A and B, Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, and Indian Police Service.

On May 28, 2023, the UPSC conducted its preliminary examinations for the civil service. The dates of the UPSC Mains test in 2023 were September 15, 16, 17, 23, and 24. Phases of the final interview rounds took place between January 2, 2024, and April 9, 2024.
