“Bed in the Garage, Broken Toilet”: A Man Talks About His Horrible Experience with Airbnb

Selecting the perfect accommodation is a crucial aspect of planning any trip. When people reserve a vacation property online, they anticipate that it will look just like the photos they see. Without a doubt, they want the space to be immaculate, cozy, and equipped with all the necessities. This American guy was not as lucky as others to locate a home that lived up to his aspirations. Nick Doty recently revealed on social media his bad experience with an allegedly pricey and unsatisfactory Airbnb.

According to reports, Doty described his stay as a very disappointing “Airbnb from hell.”

At first glance, the impressive San Diego house seemed to have five bedrooms and five bathrooms, priced at an incredible $4.9 million (about Rs 40 crores) based on its Zillow listing. To attend a friend’s wedding, Nick Doty and his buddies paid a whopping $1,250 (about Rs. 1 lakh) each night to reserve this location. As reported by Insider, the house earned an impressive 4.78 out of 5 average rating on Airbnb until it suddenly disappeared from the marketplace.

But what the listing had promised was not at all what the reality was like. The first significant letdown was made clear by Nick Doty’s account: the house had been split in half, with Doty’s party staying in one side and another group in the other.

They said that discovering the property didn’t truly have five bedrooms was the true bombshell. The “first bedroom” was really the garage, which had poor ventilation, smoke alarms, and a strong gasoline stench. The strange scenario was further compounded by the presence of a cot in the garage, which suggested that visitors were welcome to sleep with the aroma of exhaust from passing cars. Moreover, there were no electrical outlets in the garage room, so one of Doty’s buddies had to sleep on the sofa.

There were also other issues with the home. According to the New York Post, Doty and his buddies revealed their “favorite” finds, which included an air conditioner that was kept in a box until visitors paid extra to use it, shower knobs that fell off when cranked, and a toilet that was improperly mounted to a wall.

It didn’t get any better in the kitchen, where the shower took 12.5 minutes to get hot water and the oven took an abnormally long time to heat up. The black slate flooring also left footprints on visitors’ feet, giving the impression that they had been in a coal mine.

According to the New York Post, Doty appropriately described the event with sarcastic humor, saying, “All this could be yours for $5 million and a lifetime supply of antidepressants.”

But Scott, the Airbnb’s host, allegedly refuted all of Doty’s claims, claiming that there was no “garage be” and that the visitors had misconfigured the oven. According to the New York Post, he also defended the spotless black slate flooring, claiming that visitors’ feet naturally got black as a result of them.
