Burqa’s Catwalk: Jamiat-e-Ulema Irked, UP College Under Fire Over Fashion Show

An unprecedented fashion show was held at the Shri Ram College in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, with an aim to modernize it. But when the video got viral and started to get a lot of criticism, the whole thing turned into a nightmare. During the aforementioned fashion show, there was a burqa-clad catwalk segment featuring ladies. The Jamiat-e-Ulema issued a statement in response to the presentation, expressing extreme disapproval and emphasizing that the Burqa was not a part of a “fashion show.” It was said that the fashion show was a component of the collegiate program “Splash 2023.”

Furthermore, according to reports, Jamiat-e-Ulema issued a warning to the institution and the students to “act” if a performance of that kind is ever staged again. Conversely, it was stated that the students want to take action on behalf of the women inside the “Muslim Community.”

The user “enghinditweets” posted the video to the social media platform X, which was once known as Twitter. “Catwalk in burqa at Shriram College, Muzaffarnagar!!” was the caption on the photo. According to Jamiat Ulema, the burqa serves as a curtain and is not a component of fashion. Future college students shouldn’t behave in this manner.

Social media users are split about the fashion show’s viral video, which is making the rounds there. While some criticized the ladies for wearing the burqa as a “fashion accessory,” others supported them for trying to make the most of their clothing. Since it was posted yesterday, the video has received a lot of views.
