“It’s Amazing”: The Fans’ Favorite After 35 years, Larry the Barfly passes away on The Simpsons

Fans were devastated and perplexed when a cherished character was unexpectedly killed off in a recent episode of The Simpsons. The first episode of the program aired in December 1989, more than three decades ago, when it first appeared on television. But after all this time, a character’s passing has left devoted watchers perplexed. It was none other than Homer’s closest buddy and frequent customer of Moe’s bar, Larry the Barfly, also known as Larry Dalrymple. The 765th episode of the show, Cremains of the Day, featured his demise and revealed Larry’s full name.

The episode delves into the aftermath of Larry’s passing, a painful experience for viewers as Homer and company attempt to unravel the riddles surrounding their departed friend’s life.

The episode opens with Larry passing away at the bar. Later, when Moe, Homer, Lenny, and Carl attend his funeral, they discover how little they really know about their buddy. After hearing her mother’s heartfelt farewell to her late son, “My Lawrence always talked about his best friends, the fellows at Moe’s Tavern,” they become even more depressed. If they said how much they missed my kid, it would make my heart smile.

Some even lamented his passing and expressed bewilderment at the course of events, but many seemed to have acquired a new respect for the obscure figure.

“Does anyone else find it odd that the Simpsons would give Larry a’spotlight’ episode and not even mention this weirdo once?” someone asked on Reddit. Another person said, “To be honest, I had no idea that barfly’s name was Larry.” For example, I’m not sure what the guy’s name is in the photo. He appears in a lot of episodes, although I don’t believe he was ever mentioned by name.

On X, someone posted, “Just found out they are killing off Larry on The Simpsons tomorrow.” Another said, “I can’t believe they killed off Larry Dalrymple on The Simpsons last night,” expressing shock at Larry’s passing.
