Karishma Mehta’s statement that the “Humans of Bombay” concept came to her “out of the blue” in a video appears again
Karishma Mehta, the creator of Humans of Bombay, has been in the news since the copyright infringement lawsuit erupted. An old video that has gone viral shows Karishma discussing her organization while trolls continue to harass her on social media. The creator of HOB may be seen in the video explaining how the concept for the company immediately “clicked” for her. “I came up with the concept for Humans of Bombay completely by accident and I began it. And it made sense. That time was a high in and of itself for beginning anything new,” she claims.
She may be seen talking about her “struggles” later in the video. She recalls that for the first three years, the organization did not generate any revenue, and she was reliant on her parents’ pocket money.
Karishma is now the target of jokes when Brandon Stanton, the creator of Humans of New York, said on ‘X’ that she had stolen his concept for HONY. He also criticized the business for suing a different storytelling platform.
It has had over 132K views since being posted. Unexpectedly, I had the idea to create two children’s characters: a mouse and a duck. Perhaps they could be called Dickey and Monald,” said a ‘X’ user. “And the concept and the name turned out to be an exact replica of Humans of New York…damn,” said another. Such a nice coincidence.
Karishma has previously been the target of social media trolling. She had previously been seen ranting about her “privilege” in a video that went viral. The founder is heard talking about how many people still mock her despite not knowing about her struggle in the video. She mentions how often she has heard the term “privilege” used in reference to her. I am fortunate, she claims, “in that my family sent me abroad to study and made a significant investment in my education.” She also described how a loan for Rs 1 lakh helped her create Humans of Bombay. The idea did not sit well with Twitter users, and she quickly found herself the subject of trolls.
